Assistant Head Guide | Private Wildlife Reserve | Kalahari
Salary: R22,000 – R25,000 (Negotiable depending on experience) | Live-in position
Kendrick Recruitment is currently seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Head Guide for a prestigious private wildlife reserve in the Kalahari
. This is an incredible opportunity for a passionate guide looking to take the next step in their career while working in one of South Africa’s most unique and remote environments.
The ideal candidate will have strong leadership capabilities, exceptional guest interaction skills, and a deep passion for the natural world. This role will support the Head Guide in daily operations, team management, and delivering world-class safari experiences.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist the Head Guide in overseeing the daily guiding operations
Lead guided game drives and bush walks in accordance with the highest safety and guest experience standards
Mentor and train junior guides, supporting skills development and knowledge sharing
Contribute to the development of the guiding team’s performance and professionalism
Ensure proper maintenance and care of guiding equipment and safari vehicles
Assist with planning and executing special guest experiences, including bush dinners and walking trails
Maintain a thorough knowledge of the area’s flora, fauna, and conservation efforts
Support lodge management with hosting duties and overall guest satisfaction
Communicate guest feedback and preferences to relevant departments
Requirements:
FGASA NQF 2 or higher (Lead Trails Guide preferred)
Valid ARH, First Aid Level 1, and current DEAT registration
Valid driver’s license and PDP
Minimum 3-5 years’ guiding experience in a Big 5 environment
Strong leadership and mentoring abilities
Excellent communication and guest relations skills
Highly professional, presentable, and passionate about conservation
Knowledge of the Kalahari environment is advantageous
Ability to work under pressure and in remote conditions
