Assistant Chief Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Jobs in Webster, NY at Town of Webster
The Town of Webster is seeking a 3A or higher licensed wastewater treatment plant operator to become its new Assistant Chief WWTPO. This is a supervisory and technical position which involves assisting the Chief WWTPO in the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of a Type 4A wastewater treatment plant utilizing an activated sludge process. The work is performed under the general supervision of the Chief Operator with considerable leeway allowed for exercise of independent judgement. Direct supervision is exercised over operators, trainees, laboratory staff, and other plant personnel. The Assistant Chief Operator acts for and in place of the Chief Operator in their absence or as otherwise assigned.
Typical Duties:
- Assists the Chief Operator in supervising and directing the operation and maintenance of the Wastewater Treatment Plant to ensure the most efficient and economical use of equipment, supplies and personnel; Acts for and in place of the Chief Operator;
- Schedules, assigns, and oversees the work of operators, trainees, and other plant personnel. Trains and instructs plant operators, trainees, and other plant personnel;
- Inspects plant facilities and equipment daily; Assists the Chief Operator in overseeing the treatment and disposal of biosolids and overseeing the maintenance and repair of equipment;
- Oversees and implements the Industrial Pretreatment Program and various safety programs under the guidance of the Chief Operator;
- Creates and maintains a variety of records and reports for the daily operation of the facility. Inventories and requisitions supplies, chemicals, and materials specific to the operation of the facility.
Qualifications:
- Possession of a New York State DEC 3A or higher wastewater treatment plant operator certification plus two years of experience using the certification at a 4A plant.
Special Requirements:
Successful candidate will have to take the next holding of the Assistant Chief WWTPO civil service examination and be reachable, or be eligible for Reinstatement under Civil Service.
Candidates will be subject to a pre-employment physical, drug test and background check.
Pay: $46.38 – $52.65 per hour
Expected hours: 40.0 per week
