Agile Project Manager – Financial Services Sector
Our client within the Financial Services sector, is seeking an Agile Project Manager to drive the successful delivery of strategic projects within a fast-paced, evolving environment. This role presents an opportunity for a seasoned project professional to lead medium-scale initiatives, embed Agile best practices, and influence delivery excellence across cross-functional teams. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned to business objectives, while also mentoring teams and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. This position reports directly into senior project or programme leadership structures within the organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the end-to-end delivery of medium-scale projects, ensuring alignment with scope, budget, timelines, and governance frameworks.
- Drive the implementation and adoption of Agile methodologies to enhance delivery quality and team performance.
- Facilitate sprint planning, retrospectives, and Agile ceremonies, ensuring effective translation of epics and user stories into actionable tasks.
- Collaborate closely with Product Managers and cross-functional teams to prioritise work and optimise delivery outcomes.
- Manage stakeholder engagement across diverse groups, ensuring clear communication, alignment, and expectation management.
- Develop and maintain detailed project plans, including resource allocation, cost estimation, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Ensure accurate tracking and reporting of project progress, using metrics and insights to inform decision-making.
- Oversee change management processes, including impact assessments across systems, processes, and people.
- Ensure benefits realisation and traceability throughout the project lifecycle, escalating risks and deviations where necessary.
- Provide mentorship and coaching to junior team members on Agile principles and best practices.
Experience:
- 5-8 years’ experience within a project environment, with at least 5 years in a Project Management role.
- Proven experience delivering projects within Agile or hybrid environments, particularly within Technology or IT-driven projects.
- Strong understanding of project governance, risk management, and financial management principles.
- Demonstrated ability to manage stakeholders across multiple levels and functions.
- Experience in facilitating Agile ceremonies and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
- Solid understanding of systems, tools, and methodologies relevant to project delivery.
- Strong leadership capability with the ability to influence, guide, and develop teams.
Educational Requirements:
- Matric / Grade 12 is essential.
- A relevant NQF Level 7 qualification or Honours degree in Project Management, Business Management, or a related field is preferred.
- Relevant project management certifications (e.g. PRINCE2, PMBOK) are essential.
- Certified Scrum or equivalent Agile certification will be advantageous.
