General Reinsurance, Cape Town Branch (a subsidary of General Reinsurance AG) is offering an opportunity for Actuarial Student Internship in our Life Australia, UK, SA, Canada division.

Key Responsibilities

Gen Re is offering a one-year internship program in the life pricing team. The internship is based on a high level of empowerment within an exceedingly productive environment, combining on the job training with training phases. This great opportunity will enable you to learn from within an established pricing team and collaborate with actuaries across various disciplines in the business. During your time you will gain particular knowledge about reinsurance standards and guidelines, pricing, risk management, tools and, of course, clients.

The key responsibilities of the role:

  • Preparing quotations for new business and reviews of existing business for the group life business line.
  • Support of analysis and assessment of group life reinsurance portfolios for the purposes of risk management, experience studies, planning and quotation.
  • Monitoring and provision of management information statistics.
  • Assistance with maintaining the Company’s pricing guidelines and pricing tools.

    • Qualifications & Experience

  • Completed a relevant University degree involving actuarial studies.
  • The ability to work in a methodical manner with good numerical and analytical skills.
  • Able to multi-task and work under pressure in meeting internal and external deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, particularly when in new situations or dealing with clients.
  • Very good familiarity with MS Office, especially Excel.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
