Position: Accounting Clerk / Bookkeeper – Conveyancing Attorney’s Office
We are a well-established conveyancing law firm seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accounting Clerk / Bookkeeper to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of accounting principles specific to legal and trust account environments, and preferably experience in conveyancing transactions.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage daily financial operations, including trust and business account reconciliations
Ensure full compliance with the Legal Practice Council (LPC) rules for trust accounting
Process payments, receipts, and journal entries accurately and timeously
Maintain accurate records of conveyancing transactions and disbursements
Liaise with banks, clients, and third parties regarding payments and account queries
Prepare financial reports, cash flow statements, and assist with year-end audits
Monitor and report on outstanding balances and client ledger reconciliations
Assist attorneys and support staff with financial and administrative queries
Requirements
Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in an accounting/bookkeeping role, preferably in a legal or conveyancing environment
Knowledge of trust accounting and compliance with South African legal accounting regulations (LPC compliant)
Experience with conveyancing software (e.g., Ghost Convey, Lexis Convey, Legal Suite, or similar) advantageous
Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Relevant diploma or qualification in accounting/bookkeeping (advantageous)
